Week Long Road Trip, Huge Success for the Dirty Pickles"

This past Thursday, Matty B and The Dirty Pickles once again played New York City. The boys co-headlined a show at The East Village's Cake Shop, opening for Cary Bomb (of The US Bombs), side project The Bad Luck Charms (who are preparing for a major European tour beginning mid spring). It seems that the Erie boys are already making a mark on the Big Apple. Out of the 6 bands, playing the show Matty B had the second largest draw of the night, and succeeded in getting the near capacity crown to join in on choruses of their songs "Tiny Feelings" and "Go Go Go!".

Friday it was off to Philadelphia where The Pickles, again played to a near capacity crowd at Philly's home of Rock-a-billy The El Bar. It seems the 'Picklebilly' buzz was all over town surprising both the band and the night's promoter Wreck House Promotions, with the strong headlining turnout. With numerous Philly area rockabilly and punk musicians in attendance along with members of NYC's Memphis Morticians, Matty B and crew were not allowed to leave the stage performing for over 2 hours. The end result being Matty B and The Dirty Pickles obtaining dates in Philadelphia, South Jersey and Washington DC for their upcoming late May Tour that will take them from D.C. to Portland Maine and back to Erie with numerous stops in-between.

Saturday night ended with Matty B and The Dirty Pickles headlining the North Jersey Rock-a-billy Festival at Dingbatz in Clifton NJ. The event was a precursor to the 2008 Coney Island Rock-a-billy Festival, August 28-31 where Matty is one of the headline performers.

But that is only 3 nights out of the 8 days they were gone, the rest of the time was spent holed up in Brooklyn NY's, Hard Luck Recording Studios. The crew began recording their first legitimate full-length studio CD. Being produced by Kipp Elbaum (The Tubes, Valley Fever, The X-Whites, Sylvain Sylvain, and The Drossells) along with Matty and crew. Engineered by Jason Spittle (Mojo Nixon, Joan Jett, They Might Be Giants, The Lyres, Patti Smith, and The Dictators) The Pickles churned out 14 tracks that had everyone's hair standing up on the back of their necks. Special guests Danny Ray jumped in on 2 songs laying down sax tracks that included a live to tape jam with the band on a bluesy number 'Boom To Ya Baby'.

Guitar sensation Simon Chardiet (Rancid, Simon and The Bar Sinister's, Jon Spencer Blues Band, The Senders) laid down a smokin' guitar lead on one track. Although Simon knew he was supposed to perform he was hesitant after listening to a lead scratch track that Matty had done, commenting "that's already f'in great", but as always Simon rose to the occasion with a lead that will rival all others.

Matty B and Kipp will return to the studio in early April to finalize vocals and begin the mixing process. If the Hard Luck Studios response to this recording is an indication (every member of the Hard Luck staff, from owners to assistants showed up to The Cake Shop Show), Matty B and The Dirty Pickles along with all of Erie will have something to be proud of in this upcoming CD release, Matty B and The Dirty Pickles 'Picklebilly'. Advance sale limited edition CD's are still available, with bonus tracks, and info for a short time by contacting the thedirtiestpickle@hotmail.com.

January 22, 2008 "Matty B and the Dirty Pickles take NYC by Storm"

Thursday, January 10 through Sunday, January 13, Matty B and the boys stormed into New York City for five shows in 4 days. The city was ready to take it and The Pickles were ready to dish it out, and dish it out they did.

Thursday night January 10, the boys introduced "Picklebilly" their raucous version of modern Rock-a-Billy to a new audience at Club Midway in the heart of NYC's East Village (the birthplace of Punk Rock). Their 35 min set had the fans rockin out, gaining praise from the other evening's performers. On hand that night Thommy Price, legendary drummer from Joan Jett and The Blackhearts as well as Billy Idol and Scandal was so impressed he returned for their early Sunday show at Otto's Shrunken Head, where Matty B and crew opened for Richard Lloyd of Television fame (one of Punk Rock and CBGB's first bands).

Also performing at Midway was The Public Offenders featuring Dougie Needles and Enzo, guitar and bass respectively (from Joan Jett and The Blackhearts) who commented, "We would play with these guys anytime!".

On Saturday night, January 12 at Times Square area's The Mean Fiddler, Matty B and The Dirty Pickles, had the entire house on their feet. Although the boys themselves drew a small crowd, their set was surrounded by hot NYC acts and their large number of fans. Matty stole the crowd, garnering new fans as well as support and praise from the usually competitive NY bands.

The highlight of the trip just may have been their second Sunday night show. At the request of the club Coco 66 an upscale Greenpoint Brooklyn venue that had found the Pickles via myspace and liked them so much, upon hearing of the boys coming to NY, demanded they perform there. New Dirty Pickles manager Kipp Elbaum lives in Greenpoint and decided to give it a go. At 10pm, the boys took the stage. In attendance were the night's headliners The Hudson Dusters a NYC who's who of session musicians.

Danny Ray one of New York's most respected sax players could not help himself, with a gleam in his eye and a smile from ear to ear he joined the Dirty ones on stage for a rousing jam to Be Bop A Lula. (Danny has performed or recorded with Billy Idol, Billy Joel, D-Generation, The Tom Cats, Brian Setzer, Roy Buchannan, Vassar Clements and Erie PA's own Burny White, just to name a very few).

The action was not done yet Matty asked Danny to stay on stage for Chuck Berry's "Johnny B Good" that turned into and all-star jam session. Long Island NY Rock-a-Billy guitar legend Wild Bill Thompson (Robert Gordon, Savoy Brown, The Straycats, The Senders), jumped on stage to trade licks with Matty and Danny Ray, that had the capacity crowd on their feet screaming clapping and dancing and nearly blinding the musicians with a barrage of camera flash bulbs.

To finish the night with a bang, Danny, Wild Bill and their band The Hudson Dusters brought Matty up for a wild guitar driven version of Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell". The Sunday night show began with a wind driven freezing rain but the Brooklyn crowd who entered wet and shivering left fired up and exhausted from a truly awe inspiring night of HOT Rock'n'Roll. Matty B and The Dirty Pickles have made New York City theirs, and the new York fans are awaiting their return!!!!
